Why Visit Hampi from Bangalore by Cab?
Hampi is one of the most extraordinary destinations reachable from Bangalore. The ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire — declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 — are spread across 26 square kilometres of boulder-strewn landscape along the Tungabhadra River in Ballari district, northern Karnataka. The sheer scale and beauty of the site, with its intricately carved temples, royal enclosures, water systems, and market streets, make it a destination unlike any other in South India.
At 340 km from Bangalore via NH48, Hampi is best done as a 3-day trip with 2 nights stay. A single day or even two days does not do justice to the ruins spread across multiple distinct zones. With Saraswathi Car Rentals, you get a comfortable chauffeur-driven cab that handles the 5.5 to 6.5 hour drive each way, giving you and your group full freedom to explore at your own pace without depending on local transport inside Hampi.

Best Time to Visit Hampi from Bangalore
- October to February (Best Season): Cool weather, 15–28 degrees Celsius. Ideal for walking among the ruins. The annual Hampi Utsav festival (usually November) adds cultural performances and vibrance.
- March to May (Avoid): Temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius. Ruins are fully exposed to the sun with minimal shade. Visiting in summer is physically exhausting.
- June to September (Monsoon): The landscape turns vivid green and the boulders are dramatic in rain. Some sites may be slippery. Fewer tourists. Moderate rain, rarely heavy. Acceptable for those who don't mind occasional showers.
Hampi Travel Tips
- Book your hotel in advance — especially between October and February when Hampi is at peak demand. Hosapete has more hotel options at lower prices; Hampi itself has boutique resorts and guesthouses.
- Carry water and sunscreen for ruins exploration. Even in winter, the open boulder landscape offers little shade.
- Hire a local guide at Vittala Temple for context on the Vijayanagara Empire history — worth the Rs.200–400 fee.
- The ruins area is large — auto-rickshaws and cycle rentals are available inside Hampi for local movement between monuments.
- Photography is allowed at most sites. Drone permits require advance permission from ASI.
- Hampi is a heritage town — alcohol is not available or served in the core heritage zone. Carry necessary items from Hosapete if needed.
Minimum 3 days: A one or two-day trip from Bangalore to Hampi is not enough. The ruins span 26 sq km — you need at least 3 days to cover all major zones without rushing. The drive alone is 5.5–6.5 hours each way. An overnight stay on Day 1 and Day 2 is essential.
